Aloe barbadensis (Aloe vera) and Aloe Arborescens are two different types of Aloe, with very similar benefits.

One of the first visible differences is the size of the leaves (and therefore in cultivation)

Aloe arborescens has smaller leaves

Aloe vera has larger leaves

What does this mean?

It means that to get the same quantity of aloe gel, more Aloe arborescens leaves need to be opened than when using Aloe vera. This can lead to the accidental presence of antrachinone glycosides in the gel.

On the other hand, Aloe arborescens contains much less water than Aloe vera and so has a higher concentration of active ingredients; therefore, its juice is of superior quality.
